Genova University Press (GUP) is the publishing brand of the University of Genoa, established in 2010 with the aim of promoting and ensuring the dissemination and visibility of publications considered significant and capable of best representing the University’s commitment to study, research, and science outreach.
The establishment of a university publishing brand is part of a renewed interest in university presses in Italy, also promoted by the Italian University Presses Coordination (Coordinamento delle Università Italiane - UPI), of which GUP has been a member since 2015.
Adopting its own publishing brand allows the University to consistently identify its scientific output over time, facilitates its dissemination, and ensures its quality. It also enables the retention of copyright ownership of academic works, as well as ownership of the series in which they are published.
GUP’s activities are coordinated by an Editorial Board appointed by the Rector, which ensures the application of an external peer-review process in accordance with the UPI Protocol for defining scholarly standards before publication. The Board is currently promoting the development of new series within the three main publishing lines: Research, Teaching and Outreach.
For the printing of its volumes, GUP collaborates with the University Print Centre and with external printers that meet environmental and social sustainability criteria. In line with UniGe’s sustainability strategy, Genova University Press also promotes environmental compatibility and inclusion in the production of its printed publications.
GUP has established a partnership with Casalini Libri e Casalini Digital Division for thepromotion, distribution and sale of its publications. This partnership ensures national distribution of each volume to both private and public institutions, along with the possibility of international purchase.
Genova University Press participates in major industry events, such as the Turin International Book Fair, the 'Più libri più liberi' National Fair of Small and Medium Publishing in Rome, and Book Pride in Genoa and Milan. Moreover, GUP is available to support authors in organising book presentations.
