On Thursday 29 October, starting at 3:30 p.m., the Dipartimento di Italianistica, Romanistica, Antichistica, Arti e Spettacolo (DIRAAS) at the Università di Genova will dedicate an afternoon to the memory of Professor Luigi Surdich, just over two years after his passing.
The event, introduced by Professor Franco Contorbia, will mark the launch of the "Lezione Luigi Surdich" lecture series, with the inaugural lecture, "Appunti su Montale e Rilke" (Notes on Montale and Rilke), delivered by Professor Stefano Carrai, former Full Professor of Italian Literature at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa. This will be followed by the "Luigi Surdich" Degree Award ceremony for the 2025–2026 academic year.
The afternoon will conclude with the opening of the exhibition "Il fine lettore" (The Discerning Reader), curated by Andrea Aveto and Stefano Verdino, offering a rich exploration of the scholar's personal library and papers.
The exhibition will be held at the Library of the School of Humanities (via Balbi 2, first floor) until 13 November 2026 and will be open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The exhibition catalogue, "Il fine lettore. Tra le carte e i libri di Luigi Surdich", is published by Genova University Press as part of the Cataloghi del Centro dipartimentale di ricerca e documentazione sul Novecento letterario italiano series.
