In occasione del centenario della nascita di Asger Jorn (Vejrum 1914 – Aarhus 1973) le città di Albissola Marina e Savona hanno ospitato una serie di mostre ed eventi dedicati al grande artista danese. Jorn giunse per la prima volta ad Albissola Marina nel 1954, dove a partire dal 1957 trasformò la sua casa-giardino in un’opera d’arte totale. Dopo un lungo e complesso restauro, la Casa Museo Jorn di Albissola Marina (donata dall’artista alla città insieme a parte della sua collezione) è stata aperta ufficialmente al pubblico il 3 maggio 2014. Oltre che un grande artista, Jorn fu uno straordinario promotore di relazioni umane e artistiche; fondatore di riviste (“Helhesten”, “Eristica”) e di gruppi d’avanguardia come “Cobra”, “Bauhaus Immaginista” e “Internazionale Situazionista”, Jorn sostenne sempre un’arte spontanea e libera da condizionamenti. Ricercatore curioso e instancabile, scrisse centinaia di saggi di estetica e di sociologia, di architettura e di critica d’arte, di filosofia e di storia culturale. La sua eredità artistica fu grande, quella umana è stata ricordata ed è ancora oggi testimoniata da quanti hanno avuto la fortuna di condividere la sua libertà, la sua allegria, la sua generosità, ma anche il suo impegno per un’arte utile e aperta alla vita. Le esposizioni di Albissola e Savona hanno portato alla scoperta di molti documenti e opere d’arte inedite, pubblicate in questo volume insieme all’intero catalogo delle quattro mostre riunite sotto il titolo Asger Jorn: Oltre la Forma. To mark the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Asger Jorn (Vejrum 1914 – Aarhus 1973), the cities of Albissola Marina and Savona hosted a series of exhibitions and events dedicated to the great Danish artist. Jorn first came to Albissola Marina in 1954 and there, from 1957, he transformed his house-garden into a work of total art. After a lengthy complicated restoration, the Jorn House Museum (donated to the city by the artist, together with some of his art collection) officially opened on May 3rd 2014. Jorn was not only a great artist, he was also an extraordinary promoter of human and artistic relations; the founder of magazines (“Helhesten”, “Eristica”) and avant-garde groups such as “Cobra”, “Imaginist Bauhaus” and “Situationist International”, Jorn was always a staunch defender of an art that was spontaneous and free of any kind of conditioning. An inquisitive and untiring researcher, he also wrote hundreds of essays on aesthetics, sociology, architecture, art criticism, philosophy and cultural history. His artistic legacy was great, and his human legacy is still remembered today by those who had the good fortune to share not only his freedom, high spirits, and generosity, but also his commitment towards an art that is useful and open to life. The exhibitions of Albissola and Savona determined the discovery of many documents and unpublished artworks, which have been published in this book along with the general catalogue of the four exhibitions enclosed in the title Asger Jorn: the Form and Beyond.
